Grand scale terra cotta after the Roman marble Wrestlers sculpture at The Uffizi.
Wrestlers (also known as The Two Wrestlers, The Uffizi Wrestlers, or The Pancrastinae) is after the lost Third Century BCE Greek “Wrestlers” depicting two men engaged in the pankration, a king of wrestling. This terra cotta version was sold in the Sotheby’s Sussex Garden Statuary and Architectural Elements auction in 1993 (Lot 433) for $18,000.
