About the Item

This remarkable ceramic sculpture, created by Vassura in Faenza in 1976, is a true one-of-a-kind masterpiece. With its striking expressionist abstract composition, this large and impressive piece reflects the artistic exploration and creativity of its time. Though the artist remains unrecognized, the sculpture’s quality and originality make it a valuable find for collectors of fine ceramic art. The sculpture is adorned with a beautiful green glaze and intricate brown linework, creating a neutral palette that integrates effortlessly into any interior setting. Its composition evokes the enchanting imagery of a fairytale hunter surrounded by fantastical animals and a forest of leaves, lending it an almost gothic aura reminiscent of Roman period artistry. Crafted during the 1970s, the piece aligns stylistically with the works of celebrated ceramicists like Salvatore Meli, Bruno Gambone, and Pablo Picasso for example. Its origin in Faenza—renowned as a hub for ceramic art—further underscores its significance. Faenza, renowned as a global hub for ceramic artistry, played a pivotal role in shaping modern ceramic art during the 1960s and 1970s. This period saw a dynamic fusion of tradition and innovation, with artists pushing the boundaries of form, texture, and glaze. Influenced by abstract expressionism and modernist design, ceramicists in Faenza produced works that were both sculptural and functional. The city’s International Museum of Ceramics fostered creativity and cultural exchange, attracting talents from around the world. Iconic artists like Carlo Zauli and Salvatore Meli emerged, known for their bold experimentation with shapes and finishes. Faenza ceramics from this era continue to be celebrated for their artistic excellence, blending historical techniques with contemporary aesthetics to create timeless works of art. Purchased directly from the prestigious Faenza Ceramic Fair, this sculpture stands as a testament to Vassura’s skill and the region’s rich artistic tradition. In excellent original condition, the ceramic shows no restorations, though it may be missing a spear from the top. The sculpture is signed and dated on the lower rim: “Vassura 1976.” This exceptional work offers a rare opportunity to own a distinctive piece of 20th-century ceramic art, perfect for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Giacomo Onestini ceramic sculpture Italy 1970
By Giacomo Onestini
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Beautiful ceramic sculpture designed by Giacomo Onestini made in his own atelier in Italy in 1970. It has a combination of matte and shiny glazed surfaces. The back and sides of the sculpture have a textured surface with shades of gray, green, and sometimes turquoise. On the front, there's a carved-out section that's smooth and glazed with red and gold hues. It's a very appealing and intriguing piece. You can find the artist's signature, "Onestini," on the side of the sculpture. This piece was created in the artist's personal studio. Very nice large sized, heavy piece and in excellent condition. After graduating as a master ceramist, Onestini moved to San Marino where he found employment at the "Marmaca" ceramics factory. Around the end of the 1950s, he moved to Salerno and began working with the "Ernestine...
