About the Item

Virgin and Child in Polychrome Wood on a Cloud with Cherubs, Spanish/Colonial School, 18th Century This devotional sculpture in carved wood, 61 cm in total height, depicts the Virgin enthroned with the Child Jesus, resting on a cloud with cherub heads. The Virgin holds a fruit in her right hand, while the Child appears nude in a gesture of blessing. The carving belongs to the Spanish or colonial school of the 18th century, executed in a popular style but with great devotional power. The work has undergone subsequent restoration with repainting, during which floral motifs and more vibrant colors were applied. Photographic documentation of the original state before the intervention is preserved, providing transparency and certifying the piece's authenticity. The structure of the carving, with its Baroque composition and the cherubs on the base, is complete and from the period. Virgin 38 cm, carving with crown 68 cm, width 28 cm
