Virgin of Miraflores in polychrome maguey wood with Child and copper crown, 18th century
Magnificent sculpture of the Virgin of Miraflores carved in polychrome maguey wood, from the Viceroyalty of New Spain, 18th century. The Virgin is depicted standing with the Child in her left arm and a metal rosary in her right hand. It retains delicate polychromy with floral motifs and brocaded garments, showing signs of its age. It is crowned with a splendid gilded copper crown with a halo, and rests on a pedestal adorned with cherubs and crescent moons, traditional Marian symbols. A piece of great rarity, devotion, and aesthetic power, highly valued in collections of viceregal and sacred Baroque art.
