Biography – Henri (Enrique) Molins-Balleste
Enrique Molins-Balleste, known professionally as Henri Molins-Balleste, was born in Barcelona, Spain, and later established his career in Paris, where he became active during the early decades of the 20th century.
Molins-Balleste worked under both surnames, “Molins” and “Balleste,” and it is common to find identical or closely related models signed with either name. He is best known for his theatrical figural sculptures, genre groups, and figural lighting, which align closely with the aesthetics of Art Deco and late Belle Époque decorative art.
His work often draws inspiration from mythology, opera, and dramatic narratives, characterized by expressive poses, dynamic compositions, and a strong decorative presence. In addition to metal sculptures, Molins-Balleste also produced works in carved wood, demonstrating his versatility across materials.
Today, sculptures by Molins-Balleste are appreciated for their dramatic flair, sculptural energy, and clear Art Deco identity, making signed examples particularly desirable among collectors of period sculpture.
