"Emile Gilioli was born to a family on Italian shoemakers who had settled beside the Canal Saint-Martin. After the first World War, the family moved back towards Italy, settling in Nice.
In 1932, Gilioli took courses at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs de Nice, notably with the future artist Marie Raymond.
During the Second World War, Gilioli was mobilized in Grenoble where he passed the remainder of the conflict. He made the acquaintance of Andry Fracy, a conservationist at the Grenoble Musee des baux-arts and led him to discover cubism.
After the war, Gilioli settled in Saint-Martin-de-La-Cluze near Grenoble, where he sculpted in his workshop. His art was associated in a certain way with the deeds of the French Renaissance. He became friendly with Thomas Gleb...

Joseph-Michel-Ange Pollet born in Palermo on March 11, 1814 and died in Paris on January 1, 18711 is a French sculptor.
Born in Palermo to French parents, Joseph-Michel-Ange Pollet studied sculpture in Italy with Bertel Thorwaldsen, Valerio Villareale and Pietro Tenerani. He came to Paris in 1836, then stayed in Ghent in 1838. After another stay in Italy from 1843 to 1845, he settled permanently in Paris and exhibited for the first time at the Salon of 1846. He won a medal of third class in 1847, a second class medal in 1848 and a first class medal in 1851. In 1855 he was awarded a second class medal at the Universal Exhibition. He was named Knight of the Legion of Honor by decree of June 14, 18563.
Of neoclassical formation, the work of Pollet oscillates between this current and that of romanticism. In 1840, for the bicentenary of his death, he produced the bust of Rubens, the original plaster of which is kept at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. Massive bronze artist proof (AP) rhinoceros sculpture by Loet Vanderveen circa 1980s. The piece is in very good vintage condition with a wonderful patina and measures a substantial 17"W x 6"D x 10"H; it also weighs over 26 pounds. The sculpture is signed "Loet" on the underside and numbered AP 3 / 10. Wonderful detail and overall look on this gorgeous piece! #3111
Loet Vanderveen was born in 1921 in Rotterdam, Holland and later died in 2015 in the Netherlands. Holland is where he developed his love and study of animals as he lived near a zoo. He made his way to New York where he studied under Fong Chow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and learned the art of glazes and patinas. He moved to Big Sur, California and continued his work in bronze animal figures...
