About the Item
18th century Italian station of the cross on calcite crystals in matrix with a natural-forming baroque pearl.
The station of the cross is originally from a historical church in Italy. The calcite crystal in matrix is from the notable Elmwood Mine which is known for producing the world's finest crystallized calcite (referenced from the "American Mineral Treasure" book, pg. 337). This museum-quality form of calcite is incredibly rare and is a collector's gem.
The sculptural work is put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she created the piece and the period shows that the station of the cross is originally 18th century.
The artifact has been collected and combined with the coordinating minerals to create a historically and ecclesiastically significant work of organic and old. The ecclesiastical artifact was once part of a group of 14 stations of the cross. 6 other pieces from this collection of stations of the cross are also available. Please contact us if you are interested in purchasing the group of 7 stations of the cross mounted on calcite crystals.

18th Century Spanish Baroque Period Christ Crucified Altar Sculpture
By Juan De Mesa
Located in Forney, TX
A scarce Baroque Period Spanish altarpiece retablo / reredo, by (attributed) Luis Salvador Carmona (1708-1767), depicting thorn crowned Christ crucified / Cristo crucificado hand carved, polychromed wood with forged iron nails, mounted on later plaque.
This rare antique religious work / object of art, circa 1750, most likely commissioned by the Catholic Church of Spain, destined to be prominently displayed as an altarpiece / retablo or as part of a much larger reredo, directly behind the main altar at a Spanish or Continental European Catholic Church (French, Italian, Iberian, Portuguese)
The Crucified Christ, displayed mounted on a later faded red fabric upholstered shaped backboard plaque with textured gilt border. The exceptional hand sculpted, carved, gessoed, polychrome painted figure depicting bloodied Jesus, with crown of thorns atop his head, only wearing a undulating shaped cloth around his loin, arms extended and feet crossed, spear head form iron nails through both. The verso covered in an old paper printed backing with metal hook hardware at top for wall hanging.
