This is a unique custom surfboard featuring a marquetry deck, designed and hand-crafted by the w o o d p o p studio which specialises in marquetry and inlay work.
The studio prides itself on constantly challenging the limits of where and how marquetry can be applied and to that end they are the first designers to have ever successfully applied a full-scale marquetry artwork to fully-functioning surfboards.
This 6'4 surfboard is carved from a solid Balsa block with a honeycomb centre which makes for a lightweight board which weighs less than your standard foam-core board with a flex that loads up and releases like nothing else!
It features a marquetry deck incorporating a combination of natural and dyed veneers including American Tulip, Pama, Anegre and Ripple Sycamore amongst others. The surfboard has been glassed using a bio-resin making this a truly sound ecological alternative to your standard Polyurethane surfboard complete with custom veneered FCS II fins.
Each w o o d p o p surfboard is a single edition artwork whilst also boasting some creditable provenance in the surf-world having been shaped by one of the UK's legendary shaper of wooden boards. So it offers optimum performance in the water, if you can bear to take it off your wall!

Emma Wood founded the w o o d p o p studio in Wales' Black Mountains which specialises in marquetry and inlay work. Since it's inception 10 years ago, the studio has gained a reputation for pairing the classic art-form of marquetry with contemporary subject matter and its application on to non-traditional surfaces. The studio prides itself on constantly challenging the limits of where and how marquetry can be applied and to that end they are the first designers to have ever successfully applied a full-scale marquetry artwork to fully-functioning wooden surfboards. In addition to this latest series of surfboards, w o o d p o p also creates bespoke wall art, custom furniture and site specific commissions.
