About the Item
A delightful vintage bronze sculpture titled Wellingtons by renowned sculptor Olive Wootton and believed to probably be an early work dating from the from the mid-20th century.
Olive Wootton is a world-renowned sculptor who was born in London in 1932. She studied at Goldsmiths College of Art, where she graduated with a first-class honour and went on to further study at the Royal College of Art. In 1955 she was represented in the Young Contemporaries exhibition in London. In recent years she has enjoyed considerable success showing work in the UK and overseas was elected an Associate Member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1992. Her work is represented by Goldmark Gallery in Uppingham, UK.
This delightful and unusual sculpture shows a pair of discarded wellington boots, a typical statement of British Country life, mounted on a polished stone base. The boots are well detailed with and have a lovely used feel about the way they have been portrayed; worn edging, open straps, worn soles and a wonderful combination of green and brown patination. The wellingtons are presented on a green colored stone base which is also mounted with a small bronze lozenge marked OSW for Olive Wootton. The sculpture also bears a paper label for the Richard Hagen Gallery in Worcestershire where it was probably acquired from.
Provenance: From a UK Collection and acquired from the Richard Hagen Gallery. Acquired from the UK Art Market.
In good condition with excellent age patination and a wonderful display piece.
