About the Item

A striking Tibetan ritual trumpet, traditionally known as a kangling, crafted from a human femur bone and adorned with low content silver metalwork and mounted coral beads. These ceremonial instruments were used in tantric Buddhist practices to symbolize impermanence and are considered powerful ritual tools. The trumpet features intricate hand-worked silver embellishments with natural coral settings, showcasing the unique blend of spiritual function and decorative artistry typical of Himalayan ritual objects. Though similar forms originate as early as the 14th century, this example is tagged circa 1870, and stylistically aligns with early 19th century craftsmanship (circa 1800–1825).
