About the Item

43.18 Gram Elegant Spessartite Garnet Specimen From Afghanistan Weight: 43.18 Gram Dimension: 5.2 x 3.7 x 2.7 Cm Origin: Afghanistan Spessartite is synonymous with Spessartine, though in the gem trade the name Spessartite is more frequently used, and in the mineral trade the term Spessartine is more frequently used. The term Spessartite is often identified together with the Garnet name and called Spessartine Garnet in the trade. It can range from a vivid orange hue to a reddish-orange shade. Crystal System: Spessartine garnet belongs to the cubic crystal system and forms dodecahedral or trapezohedral crystals. Hardness: It has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, which indicates it is relatively durable and suitable for use in jewelry. Spessartine is a nesosilicate, manganese aluminium garnet species, Mn²⁺₃Al₂(SiO₄)₃. This mineral is sometimes mistakenly referred to as spessartite. Spessartine's name is a derivative of Spessart in Bavaria, Germany, the type locality of the mineral.
