About the Item
An impressive deep purple amethyst geode will lend itself to office or home decor. This is a great ornamental specimen for an office or public space display. It has calcite formations as well as areas of possible colorless quartz.
This piece came from the extensive mineral and gold collection of Dr. Robert Hesslberg. The geode is rectangular in shape but does have a cathedral style interior holding deep violet color clusters with well defined terminations.
Amethyst is believed by some to help control evil thoughts, a real bonus. It is also believed to increase intelligence and provide protection. It is the stone of peace, strength, personal growth and spiritual cultivation.
Overall measurements: 12 inches (24 cm) width; interior dimensions unknown; approximate weight 14 pounds (6200 grams). Excellent condition. InformationThe deep purple color--amethyst and the contrast of transparent or white quartz "eyes" make this geode sparkle. It is vivid and the color is deep making this worth a second and third look. Most geodes are composed of chalcedony, quartz and agate. This large amethyst geode weighs 6200 grams. The specimen is equally attractive set vertically or horizontally where it resembles the dramatic stage at the Hollywood Bowl.
Color depends on the location where the geode formed. Quartz can appear transparent, white or purple; purple quartz is often referred to as ?amethyst?, which is the most valuable variety of quartz. The color of agate layers inside a geode depend on the minerals in the stone, and can include shades of red, blue, green and copper. I love, love, love this piece of nature.
