About the Item
With Blue and White Laces, this Blue Banded Agate geode is a rare find, gorgeously showcasing what nature is capable of making. This specific specimen comes from our Father's collection of world-class agates and from time to time he makes a specimen or two available.
The agate patterns are very delicate and showcase millions of years of mineral evolution. Starting with a blue neon agate lace, the agate lines evolved to deeper tones of blue, giving space to sky-blue agate to take the scene in its center.
Rarely seen in any form of agate are the Inclusions, where pseudomorph growth was present in the geode before the agate took form, adding beauty to the specimen.
You may be wondering, how the blue lace layers formed, and this was an amazing process:
Agates normally form inside bubbles or cavities of igneous (volcanic) basalt and, over time, are filled with layers of water with high concentrations of silica. The water is slowly evaporated, forming a layer of silica gelatin and then a layer is formed. It is a very slow process and each layer contains different impurities, thus forming different colored bands. Fantastic, right?
