About the Item

Early 20th century Chinese lingbi scholar's rock on a custom carved wooden stand. Scholar's rocks, also known as 'gongshi' or 'lingbi stones,' are naturally occurring stones that have been appreciated in Chinese culture for centuries for their aesthetic qualities. These stones are often found in the Taihu Lake region and are prized for their unusual shapes, textures, and perforations, which evoke natural landscapes or abstract forms. They were traditionally collected by scholars and literati for display in their studies or gardens, serving as objects of contemplation and inspiration. This piece has a good color and a great shape with multiple holes attached to a wood stand, a work of art. Overall in very good condition, a nice piece.
