The Romans prized fluorite for its vivid hues and used it to create exquisite drinking vessels, such as the famed murrine cups. During the Industrial Revolution, fluorite became significant as a flux in steel production, giving the mineral its name from the Latin fluere, meaning "to flow." Today, fluorite is highly sought after for its vibrant colours, which range from purple and blue to green and yellow, and its applications in jewellery, industrial processes, and optical instruments.
