About the Item

This exceptional specimen of Chresmoda obscura, a Jurassic water strider preserved within its original Eichstätt Plattenkalk matrix, dates to approximately 145 million years ago. The level of preservation is extraordinary, capturing the full anatomical delicacy of the insect in striking contrast against the fine-grained limestone. Such fidelity across the entire morphology is exceedingly rare, making this piece an unparalleled example of its kind. Now presented on our detachable AES mount, the fossil attains the presence of a natural work of art, singular, refined, and genuinely one-of-a-kind. A comparable Chresmoda specimen is held within the collections of the Naturmuseum Senckenberg in Frankfurt, Germany, which also houses Specimen No. 11 of the renowned Archaeopteryx plate, likewise originating from the Jurassic Eichstätt Plattenkalk. This remarkable fossil thus stands within a lineage of some of the most significant and beautiful paleontological discoveries of the region. STAT Genus: Chresmoda obscura [Water-Strider] Age: Mesozoic era, Jurassic, approximately 145,000,000 years Origin: Plattenkalk, Eichstatt, Bayern, Allemagne, Germany Due to recent changes in U.S. legislation impacting customs procedures and documentation processing, order handling times within the United States may extend to 2-3 weeks. For all other countries, delivery is typically completed within 4-10 days following order processing times of 1-3 days.
