About the Item

This spectacular, almost heart-shaped cross-section of fossilised incense cedar wood is a beautifully aesthetic display piece, with vibrant hues of browns, oranges and creams, as well as beautifully preserved growth rings and internal structure. From Saddle Mountain, Washington, it dates to the Miocene period, approximately 23 to 25 million years old, and displays the remarkable process of fossilisation, where organic material is gradually replaced by minerals, preserving the intricate details of the original wood structure. Remarkably large with a wonderful and highly aesthetic shape, it is a fascinating display piece for a contemporary interior, bridging natural history and modern aesthetics. Mounted on a steel backplate enabling it to be displayed on a wall, it is an elegant addition to a collection or interior, and boasts a tangible connection to the Earth’s distant history. Provenance Discovered in Saddle Mountain, USA Please note that this item is a work of art and is thus exempt from US reciprocal tariffs.
