Large Prehistoric Natural Piece of Petrified Wood A large and very decorative piece of prehistoric petrified wood in its natural form. Truly a gem on you console table, cabinet or coffee table - this log of petrified wood is presumably around 10 to 100 million years old. Petrified wood forms when real wood lies buried underground and its organic structure is gradually replaced with hard mineral. Petrified wood in its natural form is much less prevalent on the market compared to sliced and polished examples and the beautiful thing about his very piece of petrified wood is that is still looks very much as if it is a log. Except when you pick it up, it feels like stone and is also as heavy as stone. Viewed up close it shows remarkable detail, colors and formations of minerals and stones. Great as a stand alone piece on a desk, table, console or cabinet. Interesting from every viewpoint and can also be positioned in various ways.
