About the Item
A Stunning Knobby Ammonite Fossil Specimen, About 93 Million Years Old.
This is a very beautiful, multicolored (to our eye, taupe-brown, peach, white, tan) ammonite with leafy patterns and a lovely curl at the end. As is always ideal, the ammonite has been cleared of the matrix in which these are found during digs on both sides, so both sides (rather than just one side like some ammonite specimens) show the ammonite, which is preferable and adds to its value and beauty. Since this is a prehistoric fossil it will show its age (of course!) potentially such as cracks, pits, etc. We do our best to find the nicest possible items with the least bothersome imperfections. We think this one is absolutely stunning. ***Please note that the stand is *not* included for reasons of safety. 1) Shipping metals with fragile items is too risky in our opinion, and 2) We feel it's best for each specimen to be fitted with a stand just right for its size, weight, and fragility whereas our stands are for photographs, not long-term display. IMPORTANT General Information:
Measurements are approximate and generally represent the highest, widest, and thickest areas of an item. Species and where discovered are estimated based on available comparisons, research of others, and/or the source from which we obtained the specimen as we are not fossil experts. Please expect that prehistoric items such as fossils may have signs of wear, use, or need for cleaning. Some may also have had repairs/restorations or have been sealed for preservation's sake. Please be aware that the color on your monitor and/or in your environment may look slightly different than in ours, so color is not guaranteed to be exact. Please also keep in mind that vintage and older items usually will show some indication of previous ownership and handling. Buyers of vintage and older items are presumed to understand and accept these. Since we do not do returns, please feel free to send questions if you have any before your purchase and we will be pleased to respond.

Large Red Iridescent Ammonite Fossil
Located in Wormelow, Herefordshire
A large red iridescent ammonite fossil dating from the late cretaceous period (100.5 – 66 million years ago). This huge plancenticeras ammonite is approximately 16 inches tall and has an iridescent lustre that showcases a vibrant red hue. Once a living creature, this ammonite has developed its red iridescent lustre over millions of years of compression, transforming into a striking gemstone. A rare find.
