XL Jurassic Ammonite Fossil 15.5 x 14 x 5.5 Inches Apx, with Nice Ribs. We think this is a Kranaosphinctes species.
We love the substantial ridges (also called ribs, spines, and nodes) on this extra large and heavy ammonite fossil. The specimen measures approximately 15.5 x 14 x 5.5 inches and weighs almost 40 pounds! (Due to its heft, we are not able to ship this item outside the continental US.) This ammonite will provide a nice focal point, conversation piece, or intriguing display for the home or office. As is always ideal, the ammonite has been cleared of the matrix in which these are found during digs on both sides, so both sides (rather than just one side like some ammonite specimens) show the ammonite, which is preferable and adds to its value and beauty. Since it is a prehistoric fossil it shows its age (of course!) such as cracks, pits, and possibly some restorations, etc. We do our best to find the nicest possible items with the least bothersome imperfections. This one impressed us with its monumental presentation as well as its notable ribs. You may want to obtain a custom made display stand for this piece. We have leaned it up for the photos. We were able to get it to stand on its own, but we recommend a secure support for long-term display.
