The Duke of Wellington after the Lawrence Gahagan commission for Stratfield Saye
Located in Lymington, Hampshire
This impressive bronze table bust of the Duke of Wellington is in the form of a classical tribute. He is portrayed wearing Roman leather armour, the breastplate with a central lion’s mask radiating lightning bolts. This is set on a turned socle and square plinth which in turn is raised on a curved simulated marble pedestal, with two recumbent lions above superb quality borders of classical motifs and flowerhead arabesques. The reverse states ‘Wellington L. Gahagan Fecit & Pub’d June 12. 1811’. Height: 22in (56 cm) Width: 25in (63 cm) Depth: 11in (28cm) Provenance: Major Hon Denis Gomer Berry and Lady Pamela Wellesley Berry Richard Gomer Berry, 3rd Viscount Kemsley Lawrence Gahagan (1735-1820) was born in Dublin to a family of talented stone masons and sculptors. He was based in London from around 1757 and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy between 1798 and 1817. Wide Antique Carved Wooden Eagle from France, Circa 1810
Located in Dallas, TX
With a wingspan of five and a half feet wide, this wooden eagle has a commanding presence. Hand-carved in France, circa 1810, the eagle was crafted by a master-level woodworker. Notice how each feather has been carved with incredible detail, showing slight separations in the barbs that make up feathers. The eagle is presented with wings displayed, as if in the midst of flight. Both legs are tucked under the body, as you might see on a gliding bird. The beak is open with a large hole that runs through to the back side, possibly indicating that at one time the eagle held something in its mouth. When Napoleon became Emperor of the French in 1804, he brought about a striking shift in artwork and architecture, embracing the styles of ancient empires...

Antique Italian Grand Tour Bronze Sculpture of The Dying Gaul 19th C
Located in London, GB
This is an antique Italian Grand Tour novelty figural bronze sculpture depicting a wounded gladiator known as "The Dying Gaul", early 19th Century in date. This striking classical sculpture is after the original antique Roman marble sculpture found in the Capitoline Museum in the early 17th Century, which is itself a copy of an ancient Hellenistic bronze sculpture commissioned by Attalus of Pergamon in 230-220 BC to celebrate his victory over the Galatians. It depicts the wounded naked dying gladiator, he is beautifully featured as a Celtic warrior. He lies on his fallen shield while his sword lies beside him on the right-hand side and his head is looking downward in dignified sorrow. Like the original antique Roman sculpture...
