A rare and ethereal figural Art Nouveau perfume bottle, attributed to Schafer
Vater, Germany, and marked with U.S. Patent date July 1900 and model number 4136. This finely modeled work of ceramic sculpture features the stylized head of a serene muse with flowing hair, hand-painted in soft shades of rose, blush, and moss green. The design beautifully captures the languid, dreamy expression typical of the fin-de-siècle aesthetic.
The bottle is fitted with an ornate repoussé brass collar and screw-top lid adorned with a faceted rose crystal "jewel" at its crown, further enhancing its romantic allure. The lid unscrews to reveal a clean, gilt interior liner. This exquisite piece reflects the influence of the Vienna Secession and Gustav Klimt in its fluid contours, symbolic feminine visage, and ornamental detailing.
Stamped on the underside with the number 4136 and a partial triangular impressed mark, this perfume bottle is a fine collector’s object that merges decorative arts and sculpture.
