About the Item
An iconic French perfume bottle, perfume Shalimar, by Guerlain Pairs, known as the Flacon Chauve Souris (The Bat), born 1924, Paris, France.
Shown, the iconic beautiful French urn shaped Shalimar perfume bottle with cobalt blue stopper with gold writing 'Guerlain Paris', circa early-20th century, Paris, France. Piece makes a great decorative object (or fill with perfume) for a vanity, nightstand table, dresser, bathroom, etc. Very good condition as shown in images with no chips noted. Bottom reads "Bottle made in France". Dimensions: 2.44" Width x 3.63" Height.
The urn shaped flacon bottle was designed by Raymond Guerlain and produced by Baccarat to hold only the extract of Shalimar. The bottle was also produced by Pochet et du Courval, Saint Gobain des Jonqueres and Cristal Romesnil (1920s). This bottle came in several sizes from miniature to a huge factice. A rare example had a clear stopper, instead of the usual blue wash. The earliest bottles feature a small hole drilled into the base of the stopper, in which threads would go through to seal and make a tassel. This feature dates these bottles to 1927-1936
