About the Item
From France, a super-sized and unusual oval shaped carboy or demijohn, made up of a pale aqua colored, mouth blown glass bottle clad in a hand woven wicker casing with side carrying handles. Circa 1900.
The wicker helped protect the glass bottles from banging together and breaking during transport. The woven casing also served as an insulator against temperature changes that could affect the glass.
The wicker is in incredible condition – the bottle is an unusual color. The joining of the handles twist beautifully.
These demijohns are most often round in shape with the bottles blown in green, amber, or clear glass.
This example shows both a unique form and color.
