About the Item
A mid century Murano "a canne ritorte" hand blown swirl or spiral art glass vase / bottle, made in Murano Italy c. 1960 and possibly attributed to Barovier & Toso.
The vessel has beautiful luminosity with a lush combination of green, blue and clear glass, executed in the 'canne' technique which involves grouping and melting bars of vividly coloured glass, then stretching and manipulating the form to create intricate linear patterns that resemble brushstrokes trapped within transparent walls. This is a mouth-blown glass technique that creates wonderful transparency and a hypnotic visual effect. The technique is known primarily from the glass houses of Venini, Gio Ponti and Fratelli Toso. This piece is possibly attributed to Barovier & Toso.
It is in excellent condition.
