About the Item

A good and early art deco perfume bottle designed by René Lalique in 1926 for the Maison Lalique titled "Ambroise". Inspiration for that name was likely the ragweed plant, especially if you look at the stopper and the base of the bottle, but the classic stepped compact shape of the bottle could also remind you of the Ambrosia the Greek Gods used to eat, which gave them immortality. Anyhow it is a great piece of early packaging design. It's a small precious hand flatterer, looking great in any bathroom cabinet, especially with good illumination. The piece is listed in « René Lalique 1860-1945 ... catalogue raisonné », Félix Marcilhac, les editions de l'amateur, 4th edition, page 337, as N° 523. It bears the molded signature „R.LALIQUE FRANCE“ and the engraved signature "R.Lalique France N° 523". The same number is engraved under the base and the matching stopper.
