About the Item
This 20th-century field-fired terracotta amphora was crafted in Anatolia using rich local clay and traditional open-kiln techniques. Once used for the storage and transport of oil or grain, the vessel’s tall, tapered form and twin handles reflect its practical, agricultural origins.
The unglazed surface displays a beautifully varied patina — from warm earthen reds to soft ash-grey — created by uneven heat and mineral exposure during firing. Each amphora bears unique markings and smoke traces, giving it the unmistakable character of handmade Anatolian pottery.
As a statement vessel, it offers sculptural presence and quiet authenticity. Perfect for wabi-sabi, Mediterranean, or rustic-modern interiors, it can stand alone as a decorative focal point or hold dried branches and foliage for a natural, textural display.
