About the Item
This vase is thought to be a type of pottery called "Onta ware" in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu. (It is around the area circled in red on the Kyushu map.)
This "Onta ware" is a type of pottery with a long history that has continued since the kilns were opened in the mid-Edo period in the 1700s.
This item is thought to have been made from the end of the Edo period to the Taisho period.
Onta ware is characterized by its unique design, and one of its characteristics is the bold pouring of glaze.
This vase is also covered with two types of glaze, and although it is an improvisational design, it can be said to be the skilled technique of a craftsman who carefully considered the amount, position, and flow of glaze, rather than a rough design.
As he made and fired many pottery pieces every day, his technique gradually became refined, and it is thought that he created pure and simple works without any evil intentions.
This vase should have had a lid, but it has been lost.
It is thought that it was a container for storing something.
A photo of the vase with a lid is included in the reference photo.
However, there are not many old "Onta ware" left.
It is thought that the number of pieces decreased as they were broken or houses were demolished because they were practical.
Among them, this vase has an outstanding atmosphere and a wabi-sabi feel.
The two types of glaze are very nice accents and make this vase beautiful.
As for the condition of the item, there is a red circle in the 14th detailed image, but this is a very fine crack that has been repaired.
It does not affect the appearance at all.
Also, since the clay is relatively soft, if you put water directly in it, it will seep in from the bottom and become wet, so if you want to decorate it with flowers, fill a separate container with water and put that in the vase and decorate it with flowers.
This is a rare item that is hard to come by.
We hope you will display it in your room.
Comes with a storage box.
