24K is a sophisticated whiskey set handcrafted from clear mouth-blown glass and adorned with pure 24 K gold leaves, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship. In addition to the unique tumblers, this set also includes a matching whiskey bottle and cigar ashtray.
Crafted through a traditional mouth-blowing technique, yet utilizing contemporary recycled glass from car headlights known for its durability and quality, skilled artisans carefully shape the glass entirely freehand. The gold leaf is applied to the molten glass during the hot-working process, and its placement cannot be fully controlled by the glassblower, resulting in a truly distinctive, one-of-a-kind design for each piece.
The transparent body of the glass allows for admiration of the natural color of the whiskey, while the addition of gold leaf creates a subtle yet captivating accent, enhancing the overall allure of the collection. The distinctive feature of the solid and heavy rounded bottom allows the tumblers to fit comfortably in the hand and ensures a secure grip, even after indulging in a few sips!
Please note: This piece has been designed by Laura Sattin and made in collaboration with skilled glassblowers at a furnace located at the foot of the Bernese Alps in Switzerland. The slight variations in shape, alterations in color, subtle tool marks, or small air bubbles that can be seen in the glass all testify to the authenticity of the craftsmanship. Due to the handcrafted process each piece is unique.
The technique of applying gold leaf to blown glass involves several precise steps. Firstly, the glass is heated to a high temperature, making it malleable for shaping. Once the desired shape is achieved through blowing, the glass is then cooled slightly to ensure it retains its form. Next, the gold leaf is prepared by artisans. Gold leaf is extremely thin sheets of gold and it's delicate to handle. While the glass is still hot and pliable, the artisans delicately apply the gold leaf to the surface. This is often done by gently pressing the gold leaf onto the glass using specialized tools, brushes, or even their fingers. The heat of the glass helps the gold leaf adhere to the surface. Once the gold leaf is applied, the glass is carefully cooled and annealed to strengthen it and ensure the gold leaf remains securely attached. This process requires skill and precision to achieve the desired result without damaging the delicate gold leaf or the glass itself. The end result is a stunning piece of glassware adorned with elegant gold accents, adding a touch of sophistication to the finished product.
