About the Item

Rare vase designed by renowned Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti in 1940 and later produced by Costantino. the vase features a sinuous line, with a two arched handles that give it a distinctive and elegant profile. Made of Bucchero ceramic, the black-colored pottery produced by the Etruscans. The name comes from the Spanish term bucaro, which designated a black-colored South American-made pottery imported in the 17th century, very similar to Etruscan ceramics. Original label under the base " Gio Ponti Neoponti 1940." Giovanni Ponti, known as Gio, was one of the most important figures in the art scene of the 20th century. An architect, industrial designer, artist and publisher, he is considered one of the fathers of modern architecture in Italy. Gio Ponti used to draw and design tirelessly, even late at night, by train and even by plane. He was hardly encountered without paper and pencil. He devoted himself to architecture and painting as well as design and interior design and architect. Gio Ponti's furniture, lamps, and other products, despite having reached in some cases almost a century of life, are still considered timeless and represent true iconic pieces of modern design. Their elegance, functionality and simplicity are proof of Gio Ponti's talent for creating timeless design objects.
