About the Item

This striking antique Hishey Jarrah–style zir jar stands approximately 26 inches tall and exemplifies traditional hand-built pottery techniques associated with utilitarian water and storage vessels from arid regions. Crafted from earthenware clay, the jar features a robust ovoid body, narrow neck, and slightly flared rim, creating a balanced and visually commanding silhouette. The surface is richly decorated with incised and carved geometric motifs arranged in horizontal bands, forming repeating triangular and linear patterns that add depth, rhythm, and cultural character. The vessel displays a warm, earthy color palette dominated by deep browns, reddish terracotta tones, and darker burnished areas, likely the result of traditional firing methods and prolonged use. Evidence of age-related wear, including surface abrasions, small chips, and interior mineral buildup, enhances its authenticity and historical presence. The darkened area near the lower body suggests prolonged contact with water or storage use, consistent with zir jar functionality. Time period: Early 20th century
