About the Item
Large Bommie Jar by Kurt Alexander, 2025
Hand-thrown stoneware and reclaimed porcelain, multiple glazes.
Kurt Alexander (b. UK 1991) is a ceramic artist whose practice brings together over a decade of experience, deep-rooted craftsmanship, and a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. Having trained as a bench caster and mould maker during his twelve years at Wade Ceramics in Stoke-on-Trent, Kurt developed a profound understanding of traditional processes within the historic pot banks of the city. He now draws on this heritage while forging a distinctly contemporary artistic voice.
Inspired by his passion for marine conservation and reef keeping, Kurt’s work reflects on the fragility of ocean ecosystems. His ceramics become vessels of storytelling, addressing urgent environmental issues such as coral bleaching and the loss of marine biodiversity. Through form, texture, and glaze, his pieces echo the delicate beauty of coral while also serving as a reminder of what stands to be lost if change does not happen.
Sustainability is central to his practice. Kurt explores low-impact firing methods, including pit firing, and uses organic, sustainable materials to minimise his carbon footprint. Each work embodies both environmental responsibility and artistic innovation, demonstrating how traditional craft can evolve in response to contemporary challenges.
Kurt’s commitment to environmentally conscious practice has also been recognised nationally: he was selected to be part of Green Grads, a UK initiative that highlights emerging creatives whose work champions sustainability and positive environmental change.
His acclaimed Bommie Jars series exemplifies this philosophy: hand-thrown in the moon jar tradition, their coral-like textures and opalescent glazes evoke the spectral beauty of bleached reefs. At once celebratory and cautionary, these unique pieces merge craftsmanship with ecological reflection, reminding us of the deep connection between art, nature, and responsibility.

Glazed ceramic sculptural vase by Freyja Dorren Unique Contemporary UK
Located in London, GB
Freyja Dorren, Watering Hole, 2023, glazed earthenware- 50cm Height X 35cm Width
Unique piece.
Freyja Dorren, born and raised in Edinburgh and now based in London, is a recent graduate at the Royal College of Art Ceramics & Glass MA which follows a Degree in Textiles at Central Saint Martins. Freyja has always been influenced by the life of cities, exploring the marriage of old historical aspects of architecture with new and modern developments into our ever-growing cities. Her interest in architecture stems from taking walks through the city of London, discovering old classical buildings, brutalist creations and high-tech features all within a short distance walk from each other. This led her to create work that is a nod to the past and the present, with a graphic style and finish, combining the undiscerning elements of a city. Each piece she has created is influenced by interior detailing, deriving from places such as the V&A Museum and other historic landmarks within London. Freyja's textile print background enables her to transform the tactile surface to create a unique interwoven surface, giving a current relevance to the object, bringing a contemporary twist to each landmark detail, magnifying repetition, and significance of history when we design.
The starting point of this sculptural vase is Victorian architectural...
