About the Item

Pre-Columbian Earthenware Dog Vessel, Colima, Western Mexico A lively pre-Columbian Colima dog vessel sitting back on its haunches, with one foot slightly lifted off the ground as if going for a scratch. The tail is curled and the head is cocked slightly to one side; the diamond-shaped eyes are incised. There is a small rim chip, otherwise intact, with nice mineral deposits overall. A collection number of 13 is inked on a piece of tape on the bottom of one foot. It measures 10 by 14 by 5 inches (25.4 by 35.5 and 12.7 cm) Ex. private collection, Northern CA, ex. collection UCLA Archaeologist, 1950s-70s
