About the Item

Remember Us Double Happiness Jar 78 in Red Stoneware by Marie Martin Ceramics One Of a Kind Dimensions: Ø 18 x H 22 cm. Materials: Unglazed stoneware. I am Marie Martin. I am from the French Alps, the last child in a family of 5, living in a house often filled with family and friends. I start hiking when at 3 YO, learn to ski a year later. My earliest memory is a sheep transhumance stopping right next to my house. At age 10, I receive a pottery wheel for kids. I love it so much. But because it’s very messy, I can hardly ever use it. 15 years later, I leave Europe to China, breaking with the traditional life path. I quickly jump back into ceramic and find a studio with a teacher who can’t speak a word of English. A real challenge! Since then, I haven’t stopped doing ceramic, learning the techniques in China for 8 years, followed by 4 years in San Francisco exploring materials and self-expression. After 10 years of daily practice in many different studios I decide to participate to a maker fair which quite a success and from there I decide to work as a full-time potter. To work as a ceramist is to be in my place. There’s nothing else I’d like to do. I am where I’m supposed to be. To fully enjoy my ceramics, you have to come close and discover the words, you have to touch the letters and feel the relief under your fingers. Each highlight catches the light, unlike the engraved words that play with the shadow, and captures the gaze to focus it on the text of the memory.
