About the Item

Long-time potter, sometimes painter, living in the western mountains of Maine. The Natural World is filled with energy of all kinds, vibrant, alive, and profound. My efforts at present are attempts to rub up against that energy, hoping to learn and then make it visible in some small, quiet way. The goal is for the process to leave an object seemingly not made by a person, but rather something to be discovered or found, as from walking along a beach or strolling through the woods and stumbling upon something curious. It's the wonder that I'm seeking, and some magic...hoping that some day the pieces will possess enough energy to make a Vermont dowser's plumb bob dance. Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC Mint Museum of Craft and Design, Charlotte, NC Pittsburgh Art Museum, Pittsburgh, PA Arkansas Art Center, Little Rock, AR American Museum of Ceramic Art, Pomona, CA Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, CA Newark Museum, Newark, New Jersey Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, MA Exceptional sculptural vessel by renowned Maine studio potter Rob Sieminski (b. 1953, Bog Pond Pottery). This hand-built cylindrical form features dramatic vertical pleating and deeply textured, bark-like ridges in rich layered brown-gray tones with natural cracking — achieved through masterful smoke-firing/reduction techniques for an organic, eroded appearance. Topped with a fitted ridged lid and subtle protrusions, it evokes ancient geological formations or primitive architecture while remaining boldly modern. A standout example of Sieminski's signature chunky, double-walled sculptural style. This vessel has a great presence and is a large-scale piece in person. In good condition with age-appropriate wear. Dimensions: 11.25" H x 10" Diam.
