About the Item

A scarce antique Royal Doulton porcelain biscuit box decorated with Old Mother Goose made for Huntley Palmers biscuit manufacturers in 1905. The box has been formed as a chest of drawers standing raised on four corner feet with three painted drawer fronts painted to both sides of the box and with scroll and leaf designs to both sides and all edges. The designs are applied in green against a white ground. The box is fitted with domed cover which slightly overhangs the upper edge of the base, and this is hand painted in color with a lady flying through the sky past the moon on the back of large goose. The title ‘Old Mother Goose’ is painted to the top left corner. The inside cover has a printed Huntley Palmers Biscuits Reading London makers shield mark. The base of the biscuit box is applied with a green printed Royal Doulton mark along with a registration mark for the year 1905. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market. In good overall condition with rubbing and loss to the painted line around the upper rim of the box due to rubbing from the cover. This does not detract.
