About the Item

Wedgwood Flame Fairyland Lustre Covered Vase. The body of the vase is decorated with the three repeating patterns. Fairy Slide depicts a sycamore tree with a slide and various strange creatures sliding down. Cross legged figures sit in the background. Also, 'Bird Nest Robbers' has a central egg-filled nest, with weird and wonderful figures all around. There is a Feng Hwang bird flying down from above. The Ship and Bridge panel depicts a bridge with a sailing ship underneath and various creatures. The three patterns repeat once and are all merged into a single continuous scene. The lid is decorated on the upper side and the underside. The upper side has a Bridge pattern with various creatures. The lid border has various fairy creatures and sycamore leaves. The underside of the lid has the 'White Pagodas' pattern. This has white pagodas in the centre, surrounded by water and various strange creatures. A Feng Hwang bird to the side. The vase has a Portland Vase backstamp and pattern number, 'Z5360' to the underside. Similar piece illustrated on page 203, Plate 46, 'Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre' by Una des Fontaines.

Located in Fort Lauderdale, FL
A Wedgwood Fairyland lustre bowl designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones ca. 1925 and decorated with the 'Blue Willow' pattern. The ‘Blue Willow’ pattern is timeless, inspired by 18th-century Chinese blue and white porcelains and appearing on English transferwares since the early 19th century.
