About the Item

For sale is a rare pair of fun French faience cachepots/planters from 1872-1876, with provenance from the manoir "La Dijonnerie" near Bourges. These are a creation by a notable Nevers factory that operated for just 4 years. Known for its unique artistic style, the factory's creations feature comical and grotesque interpretations. This pair of plant holders/vases is extensively decorated using the à petit feu technique (double firing) on a white background, decorated using the à petit feu technique (double firing) on a white background. They showcase vivid, detailed surrealist caricature figures among flowering branches, rendered in a vibrant hue palette of rich yellows, greens, blues, reds... that breathe life into each piece, while the intricate details on the sides, accentuated by yellow and black satyr heads, add to their uniqueness. Remarkably well-preserved for their age, these planters exhibit only a single fine hairline, as seen in the images. Each piece is signed, further enhancing its appeal to collectors. Currently on display at our NYDC showroom, this stunning pair is not just a decorative addition but a true testament to the artistry of its time. Don’t miss the opportunity to own a piece of history! The condition of both pieces is remarkable for their age, with only one fine hairline as noted in the images. Each piece is signed. They are currently on display at our NYDC showroom.
