About the Item
This elegant antique French jardinière was crafted circa 1870 in the Black Forest tradition and showcases exceptional hand-carved detail and sculptural form. Designed as a decorative plant stand, the octagonal jardinière rests on a finely turned central column supported by three richly carved cabriole legs, each embellished with flowing foliate and acanthus motifs. The warm, medium walnut patina enhances the depth of the carving and reflects the skilled craftsmanship characteristic of Black Forest work.
The octagonal planter is encircled by deeply carved scrolling foliage panels that frame inset fields and create a rhythmic, architectural presence. The interior retains its original zinc liner, offering practical protection and making the piece suitable for live plants or floral arrangements. The jardinière is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with light wear consistent with its antique character, and it presents beautifully from all angles.
