About the Item
Late 19th century English walnut and burl wood Chippendale jardiniere ode to a bygone era. It is hand-carved from luxurious which features a stylized relief carving on the boldly scrolled legs that displays an obvious Baroque style influence. Featuring cast brass handles on each side, it also sports a brass insert that was designed to hold hot coals inside upon which one would place a separator, usually a ceramic plate, then a teapot. This would allow hosts and hostesses to keep the tea warm and in the very room in which they were entertaining, ready to serve.
