About the Item

Decorate a buffet or console with this exceptional antique Majolica ensemble composed of a large jardinière and two matching cache pots. Crafted in France circa 1880, each faience planter features acanthus leaf handles, a scalloped rim, and a shaped base. The richly molded bodies are hand-painted in soft pastel tones of pale blue, beige, and green, and depict detailed hunting scenes in high relief, pointers retrieving game birds amid a landscape of reeds and marshes, inspired by the work of French animalier sculptor Jules Moigniez (1835–1894). The artistry extends to subtle classical details such as masks and scrolling motifs beneath the rim, showcasing the exuberant naturalism and color typical of late-19th-century French barbotine ware. All three pieces are stamped “413” on the underside for authenticity and remain in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining their original lustrous glaze. A rare and elegant addition for a hunting lodge, country home, or collector of fine faience. Jardinière: 16" W × 10" D × 8.5" H Cache pots: 11.5" W × 9.5" D × 9" H
