About the Item

Crafted in Vallauris, France circa 1890, this exquisite antique majolica set includes a wide centerpiece jardinière and a matching pair of tall vases. Each hand-painted ceramic piece features a gadrooned body with scalloped rim and vibrant chrysanthemum motifs in yellow and orange tones set against a rich lavender-purple background. The interiors are glazed in a soft sky-blue hue, creating a striking contrast that highlights the floral relief work. Signed by the artist Pierre Perret Vallauris, this ensemble exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and colorful aesthetic for which Vallauris ceramics are celebrated. Perret was active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, succeeding the workshop of Jérôme Massier fils, one of the leading names in Vallauris pottery. His work bridges the transition from the richly decorated majolica of the 1800s to the more modernist ceramics that would later define Vallauris in the 20th century. The three pieces remain in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, displaying a lustrous patina and exceptional painterly detail. Elegant and sculptural, this antique majolica garniture would make a charming addition to a mantel, console, or sideboard. Signed “P. Perret Vallauris.” Vases: 7" Diameter × 13" H Cache pot: 13.5" W × 10.5" D × 8" H
