About the Item
A highly decorative and authentic early 19th-century porcelain cachepot, attributed to the esteemed Tucker Factory of Philadelphia (1826–1838) or an American Federal Period porcelain workshop. This jardiniere features four hand-painted landscape panels depicting romantic countryside scenes, bordered with finely applied gold bands and decorated with gilded lion head ring handles.
This example exhibits heavy signs of use and age, with pronounced interior staining, glaze loss, and wear to the gilt detailing—evidence of its long functional life as a planter. Despite this, the exterior painted panels remain vivid and visually striking. A drainage hole is present at the base, consistent with its intended purpose.
Unmarked, in keeping with many period American porcelains, this piece is a fine representation of early 19th-century neoclassical taste and American ceramic production.
