About the Item

Antique French Carved Planter Breton Brittany Oak Doll Bed Fireside Box c1890. Direct from the Brittany region of France, and one of the most unique treasures we’ve found in quite some time!! Originally this may have been a baby bed/crib and possibly served as a planter and/or fireside box for kindling later in life. The Breton carvings are true to the Celtic roots of the Brittany region of France, with the large center carved spindled “ship’s wheel” and full-length band of spindles below and on each side. Hand carved floral leaf and vine designs span the serpentine shaped front with carved feather designs on either side, with the entire box resting on turned legs, front and back. Imagine the uses for this one-of-a-kind piece in today’s home, from a focal point or doll collection in a child’s room; for decorative linens and pillows in a master bedroom; towels in a bath; potted plants and live greenery both inside AND outside on a patio!
