19th Century oval shaped lidded wooden rice container, likely Chinese. This is a hand hewn item made from a tree trunk and fitted with a base and lid made from the same wood. The lid is tight fitting and the handle shows evidence of long and continuous use over many years. The pale color of the wood is striking and the visible wood grain lends a lovely organic texture.
