About the Item

An impressive and finely detailed French 19th century Napoleon III Period Louis XVI st. Ormolu planter. This impressive planter is raised on three slender acanthus leaf decorated 'C' scrolled legs with hoof feet, while being supported on a mottled triangular base with concave sides, squared corners, and edged by egg and dart patterns. At the center of the triangular base is an acorn reserve encases in scrolling acanthus leaves. Connecting the three legs is the circular pierced tier that showcases scrolling foliate decorations, a Coeur-de-Rai patterned band, a fluted urn with chandelle decorations around the neck, and a berried top cap. Above each of the three legs is a mottled block reserve containing a berried rosette and supporting the swaging floral garlands that connect each block reserve. Each block reserve flanks the three aprons that display intricate interlocking bands that present additional rosettes and sphere decorations. The beautiful circular top showcases a pierced gallery of small scale columns and swaging garland patterns. The gallery surrounds the original removable interior liner with handles on both sides.
