About the Item

A Japanese parcel gilt and brass mounted porcelain vessel with an ebonized wood base with a distinctive Imari motif of flowers, medallions and touches of gold. The stylized Imari palette features a large lobed medallion with a wheeled basket with flowers, the red and gold ground with stylized flowers and medallions, bearing a paper label underneath marked "JAPAN," all on an ebonized wooden stand that is topped with a finial. This would make a stunning foyer object or a garden element. Floral patterns on a bright, white background is standard Imari style. The vessel is 28 inches overall height The iron red, gold and white colors with gilt touches is stunning. Potters in China and in Europe created Imari porcelain, but Japan created Imari first, in 1616 at a factory in Arita, Japan. It is eight miles away from the seaport of Imari. Chinese and Japanese artisans are the greatest.
