About the Item

This remarkable pair of Moorish heads, entirely handcrafted in Bassano, Italy, embodies the traditional mastery of Italian ceramics. Their expressive modeling, lustrous glazing, and rich color palette — cobalt blue, deep red, and saffron yellow — reflect the Sicilian Baroque style and the decorative artistry associated with the island’s historic workshops. An essential symbol of Sicilian culture, the Teste di Moro originate from a medieval legend in which a young woman from Palermo falls under the spell of a visitor from the East. Their intense and passionate encounter inspired these sculptural representations, traditionally displayed on balconies and in homes as talismans of beauty, strength, and protection. This duo stands out for the refinement of their crowns, the meticulous detailing of their adornments, and the luminous vibrancy of their colors. More than decorative objects, they are true works of art infused with history and soul — perfect for enriching a collection of Mediterranean ceramics or adding an iconic, colorful accent to a contemporary interior.
