About the Item

A large Terracotta jar / urn / planter from Thailand, early 20th Century. Beautifully glazed in burgundy with haut-relief dots and a glossy finish. While the golden age of Thai ceramics ended around the 15-17th Centuries, local craftsmen passed on the skill through generations, never abandoning their art. Today, Thailand's artisans carry the tradition aided by better kilns and more diverse glazing techniques, keeping the handcrafting tradition alive while incorporating contemporary design. This superb jar is 20" high, 22" in diameter. Can be used indoors as a decorative accent, or outdoors as a planter or cachepot. A draining hole has been drilled at the bottom possibly at a later date, so the item can accommodate a plant.
