An antique Royal Vienna lidded pate sur pate, paste on paste porcelain urn vase. The vase is adorned with an image of a Neoclassical medallion portrait of a woman surrounded by a gilded foliate scroll frame. The vase is adorned with a pair of handles with gilded accents. Mounted on a stand featuring floral and foliage ornaments. Circa: late 19th century. Pate sur pate is a French term meaning paste on paste. It is a method of porcelain decoration in which a relief design is created on an unfired, unglazed body, usually with a coloured body, by applying successive layers of usually white porcelain slip liquid clay with a brush.
